Food Recovery

Our community business partners recover perishable products retail stores identify as not marketable to customers, but that are still usable and safe for human consumption. Products in this category are typically close to going out of date, slightly ripe, or a result of over production.  In 2000, the Conference for Food Protection, with assistance from industry food safety experts and nonprofit representatives, created a set of safe food handling guidelines for the recovery or perishable foods.  God’s Storehouse follows these guidelines closely to ensure our customers are receiving quality food.

These community business partners are arranged through Feeding America Southwest Virginia's Partner Pick Up Program:

  • 6 Food Lion stores in Danville (South Main Street, Westover Drive, North Main St, South Boston Rd, Franklin Turnpike, West Main St.)
  • Sam’s Club
  • Aldi
  • Target
  • Sheetz
  • Walmart Supercenter
  • Walmart Market
  • O’Kelly’s Deli and Bakery
