God’s Storehouse strives to not only serve the struggling members of our community, but to also give them the tools they need to help themselves advance their lives.
Here are some of the programs we have made available to the people we serve.
The Malcom Huckabee Backpack program provides food for the weekend for elementary school students that are food insecure. Through a partnership with the Danville City public school, God’s Storehouse was able to identify the school with the highest rate of students receiving free/reduced lunch. With the help of volunteers participating students are able to receive nutritious meals to take home every Friday to help alleviate hunger over the weekend.
If you are interested in volunteering to help with the Backpack program please call 434-793-3663 or if you would like to make a food donation or hold a food collection for the Backpacks, please see the Malcom Huckabee Backpacks Program page.
Family Nutrition Program “Cooking Matters” – A Virginia Tech Cooperative Extension, an Extension personnel offers nutrition classes to inform our clients healthy ways to prepare food, how to shop in a way that will maximize the effectiveness of the food we supply and food safety.
